Thursday, 23rd February, 2008
TWO bulls by new sire to WA, Shawacres Nacobi - a South African bred sire - stole the show at this year's Supreme bull sale.
The two red coated head-turning led bulls from Bullock Hills stud, Katanning, commanded the $5750 top price tags in the Simmental section of the sale and were the fourth top price of the sale overall..
One of these was Bullock Hills Buster, a soft. proud, 880kg polled bull with a scrotal circumfernce of 46cm and 200, 400, and 600 day weight EBVs of +22, +44 and +40.
Buster was claimed through a telephone bid from Peter and Charmaine Cook, Barana Simmental stud, Coolah, NSW, who had never bought a bull from WA previously, but like the look of Buster after seeing him on the Bullock Hills website.

The Cooks were intent on securing the bull in order to broaden their stud's genetic base and introduce further poll genetics into the operation as well as infuse early maturing traits into their herd. Buster will be used over 18 month-old stud heifers.
Bullock Hills Belarus also packed a punch in the ring, attracting the equal $5750 equal top price because of his thickness, depth of body, spring of rib and moderate frame. Taking th ebull home was R & P Thornton, Denmark, who liked the bull's below average birth weight and above average growth rates as well as his visual outlook.
Ross Thornton said the bull had great depth, a good back end and held his head high, being the ideal type to use over his Friesian cross cows to produce baby beef.
Bullock Hills achieved a 100pc clearance, selling five further bulls to average $4429.
